Our elephant Maelow Pho
Maelow Pho is a female elephant born 50 years ago in Chiang Dao district. She is the oldest in our herd and we are pretty sure that if she could talk to us, she would tell many stories about her life.
Let’s give her speech.
When we found her in this small village situated in the top north of Thailand, she was in poor conditions, with signs of malnutrition and scars all over her body. Her trainer used her to work as a taxi for more than 14 hours every day trough the forest, without any rest and being hit by bamboo sticks and bull hooks was a daily routine in her existence.
We had to negotiate with the trainer for few days before to convince him to handover her to us and after the successful negotiation, we took her to the elephant hospital in Chiang Mai to give her proper medications and nutrition.
Several days later, Maelow Pho started to get better and now she is safe and healthy at our camp. The life for her has not been easy, but after many years of hell now she can enjoy her retirement at Ran-Tong.
Thanks for taking your time to read Maelow Pho’s story!
