Welcome to the world!! Baby elephant born at Ran-Tong
Welcome to the world beautiful girl
Born 20th September at 1.46am
We would like to introduce our new baby elephant, born on the 20th September 2017 at 1.46 am at Ran-Tong. Our lovely elephant 22 year old Kam Moon delivered a healthy baby girl all by herself. Staff were on hand just in case she needed any assistance but it looks like our Kam Moon in a natural mother. This little one is already standing and feeding on her own.
Elephants can carrying their unborn babies up to 22 months long and will normally give birth at night or first thing in the morning, in the wild it is one of the safest times to give birth. The labor itself can last a few days and begin with contractions followed by the amniotic bladder just before the calf will pass through the birth canal. A baby calf can weight anything between 200 – 320 pounds and will stand within the first hour after the birth. The calf’s next mission is to find the mothers breast and begin taking the first milk. The calf can feed from the breast anything up to 4 years and will stay with their mother up till adulthood. We will keep you posted with lots of updates.
